10 Must Have Tools for Communicating with Clients
by Josh Catone
Communicating your clients is a necessary evil of contract web development, design, programming, writing, or any other freelance art form. Some clients are great — they communicate what they need very clearly from the get-go and things go smoothly from spec through to delivery. Others, though, will make you want to pull out your hair in frustration. Our round up of ten must have web-based tools below will help you communicate with either type of client, and generally make things easier on you and help you keep your sanity. As always, if you have any other suggestions for apps that you use, please let us know in the comments.  TO SEE THE FULL ARTICLE CLICK HERE

Marcelo Lewin's New Media Tactics

#1 - You are  a media company - Think of yourself as a media company, not a company that just creates videos.  You are a media company offering a variety of media assets for consumption (and monetization).

#2 - It's ok to charge for your content - Monetize your content.  Charge for it either via sponsorships, advertisements, premium feeds, etc.  Don't be afraid to get paid for the effort and sweat you put into it, just make sure your product is worth paying for.

#3 - Use TubeMogul.com - Syndicate your content to a variety of video sites, but use TubeMogul.com to do that.  It's easy and they take care of uploading and converting your media into the appropriate type.   Best of all, it's free!

#4 - Use Ping.FM - Tell the social world about the media you just published by using Ping.FM, which allows you to update your status one time and it updates all your social networks at once.

#5 - Blog it - Want to be known as the expert in your field?  Create a blog and blog daily (or at least 3 times a week).  Make sure you blog only on what you know and what you passionately believe in.

#6 - Burn Your RSS Feed! - Use Feedburner.com to track your RSS feed so that you have the analytics you need to track your views and listens to your media.  This is needed to be able to start monetizing all your content!

Now, if you run a business—even a small business—you must investigate cloud computing:

Cloud Computing / SaaS (Software as a Service) Tactics:

#1 - Amazon S3 - This is the cheapest and most scalable solution for hosing your media files!   You must check it out.

#2 - SalesForce.com - If you are in need of a CRM for tracking your customers, this is the way to go.  It even has an extensive API to allow you to integrate your site with SalesForce.com

#3 - Google Apps - Why use MS Office when you have  the same powerful apps, for free, on the web, accessible 24/7 and you can share the documents with any other Google user.

#4 - KickApps.com - If you need widgets for your site, Kickapps.com is one of the original websites that allows you to add pre-made functionality into your site or blog without any coding.

#5 - Wix.com - Check them out if you are looking for an easy way to create a website on the web, for free, without any hassle.  It does not require any software (it all lives on the web).

#6 -SproutBuilder.com - Similar to Wix.com, except that it's more geared toward widgets versus full blow sites.

I hope this helps.  If anyone has any questions, please tell them to feel free to email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
