If you missed the small but wonderful West Coast Film Festival in the last week of August  don’t miss the next gem of an event, the OC Film Fiesta in Santa Ana. The Free Latino Film Festival opens Saturday September 3 with an outdoor Screening and Zorro Tribute and runs for two weeks.

The OC Film Fiesta returns to downtown Santa Ana Sept. 3-18 for another cinematic celebration of Orange County’scultural diversity and rich Latino history.  The festival opens on Saturday, September 3 with a special screen tribute under the stars to Zorro, Orange County’s own international ambassador of swashbuckling.
A special free outdoor screening  of the 1920 Douglas Fairbanks classic film The Mark of Zorro will take place at 120 W. Civic Center Drive in downtown Santa Ana and will also feature a display of vintage 1920s automobiles and music from the Roaring ‘20s. The event will begin at 7pm, and the screening will take place at dusk.

For me, as an editor, the New Year is like a brand new editing project. There is much anticipation about the potential and the possibilities. Clips are waiting in a bin for their perfect placement into the timeline. Like an editing project, our chapter timeline has “clips” that are made up of meetings and events, presentation topics and a schedule. The programming committee has created a “rough cut” and has a pretty good idea of what the overall timeline will look like. In reality though, the editing has just begun.

This year the annual MCAI Holiday Party turned into an all-media organization gala. The party held at Dave & Busters in the Spectrum on December 1, 2010 saw a capacity crowd. Represented were six different OC media organizations as well as the Orange County Film Commission all of whom made the evening their official year end party. Everyone agreed that celebrating together was a lot of fun.

I want to take this moment to wish all of you a very Happy 2010 Holiday season. Through the year we typically spend so much time working away at our editing stations, behind a camera or in a voice over booth that we don’t have many opportunities to just step out and enjoy the company of our fellow media pros. In celebrating this special time of year, MCA-I OC/LA traditionally puts on a holiday party for chapter members. This year we thought we’d change things up a bit. Thanks to the organizational efforts of chapter vice-president, Eva Crabbs, we co-hosted a holiday bash at the Irvine Dave and Busters with 6 different area media groups.
