The San Diego Chapter of MCAI has two great events coming up: a January meeting on Music Scoring and Soundtracking with composer Larry Groupe...and in February, they're holding the first San Diego MediaProCamp!
In early February look for the SD MediaProCamp to be held at the prestigeous Art Institute of San Diego. Besides a Media Arts program they have a great culinary school so the food at MediaProCamp should be great! There will be more information in coming weeks!
Meanwhile, on January 27th, the monthly MCAI San Diego Chapter meeting will include information on Buy-out libraries; Needledrop libraries; Software; Composer libraries; Soundtrack songs and of course, Custom scores featuring Larry Groupe'. Larry is one of the most talented and versatile composers working in the entertainment industry today. With an impressive musical resume in film and television as well as the concert stage, his achievements have received both critical praise and popular acclaim. Larry will show examples of what a score and a soundtrack song can add to a scene, and discuss how to work with a composer and a music supervisor.
Most notably, Larry wrote the score for The Contender starring Joan Allen, Gary Oldman and Jeff Bridges, a highly regarded political drama that received multiple Academy Award nominations. Other feature film credits include Resurrecting the Champ, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Harnett, and Nothing But the Truth, with Kate Beckinsale and Matt Dillon.
Larry has an Emmy award to his credit for best documentary score, Jonas Salk: Personally Speaking. In 2004, Larry was nominated for a primetime Emmy as composer of best original score for ABC's drama series, Line of Fire. He also composed the score for the ABC drama, Commander in Chief, starring Geena Davis.
The meeting will take place in Studio A at KPBS, one of the largest stages in the area. Tours of the state-of-the-art KPBS production facility will be offered.
Don't miss the chance to win a great door prize, including some of Larry's music or a $100 certificate toward use of the production services offered by KPBS!
