Hello Monop Doc-ers!
Kevin and I went back to Pawtucket, RI, home of Hasbro, two weeks ago to screen the film as required by our permission agreement with them. The great news is that so far they have only very minor required changes that we have to make to comply with the terms of the agreement. However...
they still have until the end of the month to give their official approval.
In addition to required changes, we are, of course, also hoping they like the film enough to help us promote it, and most of the executives felt that the film was excellent and will do a lot of good things for their brand.
We are now waiting for word back from two Hasbro entertainment executives based in L.A. who are screening it this week. Today we also chose post houses in L.A. to do the final color grading and audio sweetening.
We've submitted the film to several film festivals taking place in September & October, and should begin to hear back from some of them by the beginning of next month. The whole film festival process is very much like the college application process: you have exclusive schools that are hard to get into, and safety schools that should be pretty easy to get into, and you have to send in an application, fee, and transcripts. Replace schools with festivals and transcripts with DVDs and it's the same!
While we have enough money to finish making the film, we have very little leftover with which to promote the film, so let me know if you or anyone you know is interested in investing. Depending on how we end up distributing the film, effective promotion may end up being a key to success!
